Geographical Indications is popularly known as GI.Very few applications in India have been filed under GI as compared to Patents, Desgins, Copyright and Trademarks. When any organisation or statutory body wants to protect the quality and uniqueness of the service or goods provided within their territorial limits, so that nobody can take undue advantage of the same they have to file an application under GI. Some of the examples of the same are Knajivaram silk, Nagpur oranges, Agra's peetha, Kashmir's apple, Tirupat's Ladoo and so on.
